Government has wondered why Zampost is failing to recover the 20 million kwacha debt it is owed by the government and the private sector in order to pay workers who have continued to go on strike due to non-payment of their 7 months salaries.
Zampost workers have in the recent past being staging sitting in protest demanding for their unpaid salaries and last week the workers in Lusaka refused to accept to be paid 500 kwacha each which was offered by their management.
But in an interview with 5fm news Transport and Communications Minister Brian Mushimba believes that if the 20 million kwacha debt is recovered it will go a long way in addressing the plight of Zampost workers.
Meanwhile Dr Mushimba says the government has been lenient in bailing out parastatals as the move is not sustainable.
He feels the government’s mandate of providing quality services in various sectors cannot be attained if it continues bailing out commercial entities which have the potential to generate their own revenue for their operations.
