The Zambia National Farmers Union has underscored the need to reinforce capacity building among farmers on the use of irrigation schemes in farming.

In 2017 the Government set to build up to 20 irrigation schemes while scaling-up the sustainable utilization of wetlands aimed at promoting diversification of cash crops such as cotton, cashew nuts, soya beans, cassava and rice.

Union Public Relation Manager Calvin Kaleyi has observed that maximum benefits from all the irrigation schemes that have been established can only be realized if the farmers are well vested with appropriate skills required when using irrigation methods.
