The Zambia National Farmers Union (ZNFU) has hailed government’s decision to allow export of mealie meal saying it will allow the country to utilize the export window into countries where there is demand for the mealie meal and indirectly demand for any unsold maize grain will improve.

ZNFU Media and Public Relations Manager Calvin Kaleyi says the ban will also contribute positively towards preparation for marketing of the new crop as there is now hope that excess carryover stocks of maize will be reduced.

And Kaleyi says they support the consultation process and provision of credible stock information to government and further indicating that ZNFU pledges to give this mode of operation maximum support so that the maize industry can develop sustainably.
